Through connections forged by Hadassah Nice, the University Hospital of Nice, France and the Hadassah Medical Organization are beginning a cooperative medical venture.

Dr. Gabriela Mendeluk, who is affiliated with both Argentina’s University Clinical Hospital, “José de San Martín,” and the Buenos Aires’ Government Hospital, “Ramos Mejía,” spent one month as an observer in the Hadassah Medical Organization’s In vitro Fertilization Department and Sperm Bank about a year and a half ago. Appreciative of the knowledge she gained at Hadassah, she notes: “This last year we were able to achieve 17 pregnancies from sperm insemination, obtaining the same results expected for this technique all over the world.”

In April, Professor Shimon Slavin, Head of Hadassah’s Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Cancer Immunotherapy, participated in the First World Summit on Health and Integral Medicine, sponsored by the World Federation of Traditional Medicine in Mexico City.

When Hadassah New Zealand’s President Valda Knight learned that a prominent New Zealand newspaper editor was going to be in Israel, she made sure to contact our Hadassah International Liaison in Israel, Shoshana Matan, to take the editor on a tour of the Hadassah Medical Center.

An Israeli company from Singapore brought a delegation of businessmen and party officials from China to the Hadassah Medical Center, with the goal of establishing business contacts. Prof. Dan Shouval, head of Hadassah’s Liver Unit, and Rafi Hofstein, Chief Executive Officer of Hadasit, Hadassah’s research and development subsidiary, hosted the delegates.

Accompanied by a representative from the Austrian Embassy’s Office of the Commercial Counselor in Tel Aviv, three Austrian reporters toured the Hadassah Medical Center at Ein Kerem with a German-speaking guide. They met with Ophir Shahaf, Vice President of Hadasit Bio-Holdings Ltd., which markets the hospital’s intellectual property. One of the objectives of the Office of the Commercial Counselor, explains Annette Morris, its representative, “is the expansion of existing business relations between Israel and Austria into the high-tech sector and the encouragement of closer cooperation between Israel and Austrian scientific communities.”

The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the United Nations’ umbrella body for humanitarian activities, has approved Israel's acceptance to its Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

A film which showcases the Peacecamp Project sponsored by Hadassah Austria, the European Union, the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Culture, and the Karl Kahane Foundation, has been viewed recently by the Committee on the Status of Women and the Committee on Peace of the United Nations in Vienna, Austria. This peacecamp brings together Palestinian, Israeli, Austrian, Slovenian, and Hungarian children to dialogue and interact socially in order to gain greater understanding of each other’s roots, identity, and perceptions.

An extraordinary concert sponsored by Hadassah France brought close to 2,000 people to Paris’ Théâtre des Champs Elysées. The featured performer was the legendary Itzhak Perlman, who returned after a 10-year absence from the Paris music scene.
